Skiathos: 61-year-old “accountant” scammed 24 people – Promised quick pensions through… connections in EFKA

An incredible case of fraud has been uncovered in Skiathos, involving a 61-year-old man from Athens who posed as an accountant and promised “fast-track pensions” to unsuspecting citizens. The con artist convinced his victims that he had high-level connections within EFKA (the national social security fund) and the Ministry of Labour, extracting sums of money that reached up to €10,000.

His scheme operated from 2021 to 2022, aided by a 57-year-old woman who presented herself as his associate and reassured the victims that their applications were “being processed normally.” None of them suspected that behind these promises lay a well-organized scam.

The case was tried before the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Volos, where the 61-year-old was found guilty of large-scale fraud committed jointly and repeatedly. He was convicted in absentia and sentenced to four years in prison and a €2,000 fine, without suspension or conversion. His 57-year-old accomplice was sentenced to two years in prison with a suspended sentence.

A total of 22 out of the 24 victims joined the case as civil claimants, seeking justice for the financial and psychological harm they suffered.
